Matt Seattle Band

21st July 2013 : 7.30pm

The Border piping tradition is at the radiant core of our intense music. Matt Seattle is a major figure in the resurgence of this tradition, while Frazer Watson and Lewis Powell-Reid, both musicians immersed in Eastern European folk styles, create a new soundscape for Border music, performing on frame drums, darabouka, accordion and bouzouki, and Donald Knox provides the harmonic rooting for the group on guitar.

Mill Sessions : Mike Hastings

May 23 2013

Mike Hastings with Murray, Stewart & Burns supporting.

Mike Hastings is a singer songwriter from Glasgow and is the guitarist of Psyche Folk-Rock band Trembling Bells. He also plays in the Mike Heron Band, Mike and Solveig and The Pendulums. Influenced by the likes of the Incredible string band, Kevin Ayers, Syd Barrett and early John Martyn, Mike’s colourful and surreal songs twist and weave unexpectedly around intricate finger picked guitar patterns. Expect tales of Candlestick Makers, Small Horses, Spirals and the Infinite Reflection of the Golden Sandwich.

Alasdair Roberts

April 26 : 7.30pm

Acclaimed Scottish folk musician Alasdair Roberts is currently touring following the release of his new album ‘A Wonder Working Stone’. As is often the case with Alasdair’s songs, the tracks from A Wonder Working Stone draw heavily on the traditional song culture of Scotland (and, more widely, the British Isles), which is the basis of his musical research.
