Mill Session : Gentle Jazz

Friday April 12th  7.30pm

Tickets £10 from TicketSource or on the door.

Gentle Jazz is a well-known group of Dumfries and Galloway performers. Our programmes feature the ‘greats’ of the American Song Book: the well-loved songs of Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin from the 1920s and 30s, together with the occasional ‘novelty’ from the 1960s. Our style is mainly 60s ‘bebop’ jazz, with a little bossanova and fusion (not to mention some audience participation) here and there. We aim to provide good entertainment whilst avoiding excessive din at all costs!

Contemporary Folk Quartet

Balter are a contemporary folk quartet who have emerged from the music scene in Newcastle. The interplay between two fiddles, mandolin and accordion generates a distinctive sound which explores new textures; gelled together with intricate arrangements. Taking to the stage with exuberance and an infectious live energy, Balter have been performing extensively around the North East of England and Scotland and have began to extend their audiences further afield.

'We were blown away by Balter when they supported us recently. Their innovative arrangements played with style and skill were a joy to hear. What a great band!' – The Shee
