Session : Gentle Jazz

3rd April 2020 : Postponed

We regret that this event has had to be cancelled due to the current Covid-19 outbreak.  We hope to be able to reschedule later in the year.

Gentle Jazz is a group of mature Dumfries and Galloway performers with many concerts in the region under its belt. Our programmes feature the ‘greats’: the well-loved songs of Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin from the 1920s and 30s, together with the occasional ‘novelty’ from the 1960s. Our style is mainly 60s ‘bebop’ jazz, with a little bossanova and fusion (not to mention some audience participation) here and there. We aim to provide good entertainment whilst avoiding excessive din at all costs!

With drinks and nibbles to put a Spring in your step!

Tickets £15 from The Gatehouse Store, or from Geoff Keating 07773 295449 or 01557 814376

Session : The Idumea Quartet

5 April 2020 : Postponed

We regret that this event has had to be cancelled due to travel problems and other difficulties during the current Covid-19 outbreak.  We hope to be able to welcome the quartet to the Mill at a future date as part of a rearranged UK tour.

Blending tradition, experimentation, and sheer nonsense in roughly equal measure, the Idumea Quartet deconstruct and reconstitute Appalachian folk music, drawing strong influences from minimalism and experimental music. Using the traditional string quartet instrumentation while coming from a shared background in traditional music, the quartet seeks to bring the trad repertoire into conversation with a chamber music aesthetic. Add harmonized singing into the mix and the result is a sound which is both high and lonesome and symphonic.

Session: Holly Arrowsmith
