The Gatehouse Story

All season

The town of Gatehouse of Fleet was built from scratch in the mid eighteenth century as a planned industrial town. It grew out of great changes in society at the time - a product of the industrial revolution. This exhibition tells its story.

Follow the Fleet

All Season

The Fleet Valley is a designated National Scenic Area. It contains a wide variety of landscape and wildlife. This exhibition follows the river as it flows from the high hills and wild moorland at the head of the valley between the narrow wooded slopes of the middle section of the valley with its patchwork of small fields and woodlands to the open estuary landscape where the river flows into the bay. A set of trail guides available from the Mill complements the exhibition.

Fleet Reflections

Fleet Reflections was a project for songwriters and aspiring songwriters, run through The Mill on the Fleet during 2017-18.  Both experienced songwriters and those who had never tried before took part.

Using inspiring locations throughout the Fleet Valley National Scenic Area and on Cairnsmore of Fleet National Nature Reserve as its focus, Fleet Reflections provided the opportunity to take part in a new musical project using our beautiful landscape and its stories as inspiration.

Songs were performed at a special Mill Session on 23 March 2018.  Songs will continue to be performed at future events we hope and continue as part of a local repertoire.
